‘PAINT OUT’ NORFOLK 2022

@paintoutnorfolk 2022. An annual event where 90 artists are invited to paint in various locations around Norfolk.

DAY 1: I chose to paint a beautiful house in the shadow of Norwich cathedral by ‘The Deanery’. My little helper and I quite happy with the result especially given it reached 36 degrees! That’s how it goes with ‘Plein air’ painting- conditions are rarely ‘ideal’! If it’s not too hot - it’s too cold, or windy or wet! That’s the challenge!

DAY 2 of the ‘Paint Out’ below… this time I took shelter under an ancient gateway to ‘Tombland Alley’ in Norwich City centre. Turns out there is a more sinister side to this scene…the raised ground either side of the path marks the site of the two pits which are said to hold upto a thousand skeletons from the devastating bubonic plague outbreak in 1578. Lavender was planted to mask the smell.

Check out the building that hovered above my head- that door is a rhombus shape!

Beautiful Norwich…complete with a trail of 100 differently painted dinosaurs!
