VINTAGE VASE

8” x 8” oil on board.

Oriental Lilies.

Day 6 of painting these lilies…I’m interested by how they’ve inspired me each day as they have opened out…(see gallery)

Day I - I was drawn to the random shapes and shadows.

Day 2 - I wanted to use pink to compliment the green.

Day 3 - I tried an analogous colour way from lime to turquoise to emerald green, it felt a little safe.

Day 4 - bouncing off the ‘safe’ vibe I went ‘wild’ with a vivid yellow!

Day 5 -  Having gone so crazy I felt the need to be subtle, using blues and greys.

Day 6 - time to ramp it up again with a highly contrasting background to show up those lovely curls on the petals.  The vase - whilst decorative, was actually almost hidden against the background so I felt I achieved contrast and subtlety.
