One of the beautiful things about oil paint - for me, is that you, as the viewer can see my brush marks and feel the way the the paint was put down…that connects us through the painting.

I was teaching recently and someone was watching me as I carefully angled my brush and swept it round to make a mark…their instant observation was “it’s almost calligraphic”…I’d never thought of it that way but it really resonated with me as thats exactly how it feels: deliberate with intent but also ( I hope ) style and flair.
