PURPLE PASSION

Passion flower

8” x 8” oil on board.

Tricky not to get too involved in the detail on this one, again, i’m loving the shadows on the petals and those spirally tendrils. I’m not sure whether to bake the background less ‘blocky’…i’ll keep sleeping on it!

I will be teaching a workshop on 7 October @micklemsfarmcreativeworkshops called ‘Mind the Gap’ and demonstrating this method of painting...

We will be painting a small group of climbing flowers such as Clematis or Passion Flowers. Working ‘alla prima’ in oil paint we will focus on leaving bits of our under-painting peeking through. We will look at ways of applying the paint in a dynamic and interesting way: focusing on colour, brushwork and composition.
