PENDULUM

‘PENDULUM’ 16” x 16” Oil on Board

Or as my son said ‘Plants falling out of a pot’!!!

I adore this subtle colour palette! I like the fact that it doesn’t all make sense and that you have to look hard to figure out what’s going on. I’ve got stems falling through the sides of the glass vase and flowers where handles should be - but i’m the artist so I can do what I want right?- why work within boundaries when you can push through them?!

My husband said “hadn’t you better check that people want to buy these big ones before you go into mass production?” honestly - it has been so liberating to be creating without knowing what the outcome will be or painting with the intention of selling. Here - I’m painting for me. If life drawing has taught me anything this past year it’s to work instinctively and be prepared to fail - often. We do 8 drawings in 2 hrs and at least 3/4 of them go in the bin at the end of the session. It’s demanding and hard to get it ‘right’, so i’ve got used to trying and failing, it doesn’t worry me so much anymore, which frees me up to take risks and be more adventurous. If some one else likes it enough to buy it - great - if not? - well I’m carrying on regardless!
