FLASH the Duck Tolling Retriever

12” x 12” oil on board

I had to psyche myself up to put paintbrush to board this week-after not having picked one up for a month it took a while to relax into it. I generally start the day with the fiddly bits and end with the looser bits which helps. This painting took 10 hours... I absolutely love the composition and the chance to include 3 big paws!

I wasn’t sure whether to change the background from the reference image, but the grain of the wooden floor helped add some perspective which I liked.

Top tip: The reference image came from ‘pixabay’ - a website full of images that are free to use and full of great compositional ideas. I’ve a few more to work from up my sleeve but next week I’ll be working on an exciting commission to paint a greyhound in action winning his race... watch this space!!
