Eddy the Pug

8” x 8” oil on board

This is Eddy, brother of Olive (middle)…since both photos were taken in brightly coloured cars I figured that this was significant to the owner and that the car should feature heavily in each instance. With Olive it was easy but with the close up of Eddy I had to insert a window in order to make sense of the green, add a light source and add some interest to the background. I think they go really well together as a result.

Sometimes, when you know that an animal is a creamy colour all over, it is difficult to convince yourself to paint the shadow side in shades of grey. In this instance I use an ap called ‘Coolors’ where you can click any point on the image and it will tell you exactly what the colour is (right). You can then build up a palette at the bottom as a useful reference.
