BRUSH SELECTION

This is a slide I use when i’m teaching show the importance of ‘brush selection’ when painting to give certain effects… if you want ‘blocky with sharp edges and corners - go with the flat, something more organic - a round hog haired brush, something soft and painterly - it’s got to be the scruffy looking hog haired filbert on the right! Basically the scruffier the brush - the less control you have over the marks…so experimenting with your brushes gives you unexpected and sometimes more interesting and unusual results!
